Solutions to Generator Problems

Fan blown bubbles are pushed away from the generator before turbulence can pull the bubbles back. The fan producing a stream of air in an otherwise no wind environment. Wind driven generators do not have this luxury.

Get the loops further away from container. But if you use a simple rotating loop method, this will also mean that a much wider container, is needed for the larger size. this will have to hold more bubble mix and thus be heavier, and unless shaped it will also cause more turbulence.

Getting the loops away from the generator without prematurely blowing bubbles (immediately leaving the container), is also a problem. With fan generators loops will only blow bubbles in the airstream produced by the fan. But the wind blows evenly, all over, so the bubble loops need to be turned out of the wind until you are ready to blow the bubble. IE: Complex. Ideas?

Larger loops (or better formed loops) would also be a great help more and larger bubbles can be generated and thus more excape the turbulence.

Barry Klein <barry.klein@Deltronix.com> had an idea to use a funnel to channel the wind into the loops. I also considered this but rejected it due to the greater turbulence it would create, which is the current problem.

Another idea he is thinking about is...

``The new type of big bubble wand for kids. The kid closes the handle which pumps the solution up to the top of the assy. and it drips down some strings that normally are straight up and down. But if the kid compresses the handle more it causes two strings on side arms to separate the vertical strings into two sections - causing surface tension and a bubble. ''
This of course has the problem of automation and or remote control, but if it can be made to would would be a great bubble blowing device for kites. As he puts it...
Imagine making 20 foot long bubbles from 100 feet up!!! That's my goal! No small invisible bubbles for me! ''

And another...

I also played around with a bubble machine intended for a bike. It should work fine on a kite but the solution reservoir is not big enough for a long period of bubble making. This unit consisted of a plastic wheel with bubble wands on the outer perimeter. Propellor vanes are on the same axle, in front of the wheel. Small bubbles though.

Andrew Beattie <andrew@tug.com> mailed me to told me to `` Cut town on the *turbulence* ''. He suggests making long nose and tail cones for the bath and maybe a cover as well to avoid spillage.

Hmm as the ``jump and bubble used this I am thinking of resurencting my mark 2 generator and giving this a go.

My Next trial

In Mark 3 (in development) I hope to use some sort of tube which the wind blows down. Bubbles are wiped across the tube above the container, and then the wind blows the bubble surface down the tube to the end, where the actual bubble will be blown. Hopefully downwind out of the turbulence. I am still thinking on the exact methodology.

[photo] 3 years later.. We'll I never did get around to more experimentation for Mark III. However Philippe Payant <ppayant@syscan.com< designed a generator which is simular to the `wipe' method, of generating bubbles. A diagram was mailed to me by Philippe, which is shown.
